This is the day marking the escape from prison into freedom of the sixth guru of the sikhs, Hargovind. This day is celebrated by jains as the day when Mahavira attained Heaven. It is the day on which Sri Krishna built Dwaraka. It is the day on which Ishwara reduced Manmatha(the God of Love) into ashes and the day on which He kicked the God of death as a punishment for the audacity. Since it is a day associated with such a large bouquet of victories, it is even celebrated by the christians as All Saints Day, on which they derive festive joy. The inner meaning of the fun and festivity , the illumination and fire works, that mark this day is only this: these are outer expressions of the Ananda surging out of this sense of triumph.
