Story behind the photo 119 : This Trowel was used by Divine Hands.
The trowel in the Photo was really touched & used by Swami in Dec 1966 when he laid the Foundation Stone of the Sai Mandir at Olavakkode Samithi, in Palakkad city. The trowel is being kept as sacred tool, and devotees are allowed to do namaskar before it.
From Malappuram, I travelled down further south, to the city Palakkad. It is in this town where I was brought up and had my education too. On the 23rd and 24th October I was in Palakkad, Kerala, giving talks on 2 consecutive days. I was told that Swami had long back sent Sri Kasthri here twice, to talk to devotees. When I took the mic, I felt a bit nervous knowing that I am standing in a place from where senior devotees like Kasthuri, Anil Kumar and many others had spoken to deovtees.
I was most fortunate to hold this Trowel in my hand, when I recently visited this Samithi. I heard the story behind this sacred tool.
It happened on the 23rd December 1996, when Bhagavan Baba visited this city. Swami travelled to this distant suburb in Palakkad, a place called Olavakode. Even in those old days, a small samithi was functioning there. Swami decided to visit this place, without making any prior announcements or arrangements.
The members of the Samithi had procured a small piece of land to build a Mandir Hall. Swami gracefully performed “Bhoomi Pooja” . and placed a mixture of concrete in the pit made for foundation. This trowel was really touched and used by Swami in Dec 1966 when he laid the Foundation Stone of the Sai Mandir at Olavakkode Samithi.. The trowel is being kept as sacred tool, and devotees are allowed to do namaskar before it.
It was Swami's second visit to Kerala was in 1966 . Swami Spent two days in Palakkad Devi Vilasam , the palace of Kollengode Maha Raja. While coming back just before entering to Olavakkode , at a place called Thaanavu, Swami told the Driver to turn left and there Swami came to the place near Kallekulangara, a housing Colony which was formed by devotees of Swami who were mainly working in Railways, and the Colony was officially named by the Govt Authorities as " Sri Sathya Sai Nagar" in 1962, perhaps the first housing colony ever named in Swami's name. Swami reached this place where very few, less than 50, ardent devotees were waiting for His arrival. Swami got down from the car and went near the devotees and lovingly talked with each & every one and gave Paadan namaskar to all. Swami then laid the Foundation Stone of the Bhajan Mandir for Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samithi, Olavakkode , Palakkad in Sri Sathya Sai Nagar. Swami told the devotees in Tamil "Enneeku Chovva kazhame (today is Tuesday), and Vaikunda Ekadashi , a good day" Then Swami took the Trowel and cement mix and a brick and laid it in the pit. Thus this is the one and only one Samithi Building for which the foundation stone was laid by the Divine Hands.
Many veterans like Sri Kandunni Panicker, Sri Appukkutta Menon , Sri T N K Nambiar , Sri Karunakaran & Sri K C Unni Nair were behind this holy effort. This Samithi has become the Center of Head quartes for all Sai Activities in Palakkad and the devotees here are having all the 365 activities in Samithi and the countless number of activities in all the fields. The foundation Stone , the Trowel etc are worshiped as holy even now. Few devotees who were fortunate to be with Swami on those days are still there engaged in all activities of the Samithi.
With Love & Regards, Mumbai Srinivasan.
